Week 77 - Both girls at Secondary!! Glastonbury Tor-nament, and Bunnykins' & Mummy's weekend of fun

Monday was Bunnykins' first day of Secondary School. It was an induction day, so just the year 7s and 12 were in. Also because of all the delay with school uniforms from  the sole provider of the uniform (having the logo changed I guess caused some chaos, but anyway it is a bit pants that we ordered uniform in July and it is still not here) they had made the first day a non uniform day.

She was feeling pretty trepidatious about the day. We went in on the bus together.

We stopped on Gloucester Rd for a smoothie as we were a bit early.

I saw her in, feeling pretty worried for her. I couldn't help it. I know that when people get to know her, she'll make good friends, but I know how hard it is for her.

I walked across town to the office. It was a nice morning.
I went out to Eat-a-Pitta for lunch, which is in St Nicolas market just across from my office.
I walked across to meet Bunnykins at the end of her day and we took the bus home.

After tea, I went out to UkuleleLand practice. It was a really warm day and a beautiful evening.
Tuesday was Woo's first day, and the first day with them both in uniform.
I took some pictures of my smart bears...
Note the difference between a smart year 7 who likes to follow the rules and the rebel year 10 with her skirt rolled up and non regulation white socks!!! 😂
On my memories a super cute picture came up of the girl's first day when Woo was going into yr6 and Bunnykins into yr 3.
They went off together on the bus. I dropped them at the stop.
It was another hot day. I came back home and had my breakfast of kale smoothie outside.
Mark was off to the office, I had a break outside, just wanting to soak up a bit of sun after so long under grey cloud.
Then at lunch I had a walk.
I had a chat with John after tea, then sat out a bit longer, I didn't want to go in.

Mark took the girls to the bus-stop on Wednesday.
I got ready. Today was the day of a big presentation I was going to be doing. An external webinar on Internal Carbon Pricing. But I was going to cycle to work.
Another pitta for me at lunch!
The presentation went really well. We broke some records for attendance with 245 on the webinar at one point. It was nerve wracking and a bit weird as you don't get any immediate feedback. The audience can asked questions in a chat but you can't see them. I did subsequently hear some really good feedback, but I find it quite challenging to deal with - not knowing how it's gone down - I spend the evening expecting a metaphorical punch in the face from someone coming to tell me it was rubbish.

On Thursday, Mark took the girls again to the bus stop and I got a run in. The weather had turned back to grey and damp.

Ben came over in the evening. It was still a nice evening to sit out. We played some songs that I haven't tried in a good long while, which was nice.

On Saturday, Mark and Woo were up early as they were off to Glastonbury Tor-nament. An Ultimate Frisbee tournament that has been going 20yrs.

Woo has been joining Mark at the Disco Biscuits practices and this would be her first tournament. It was great that she was chosen for the team as it was over subscribed.
I got up and helped them get ready and out the door.
Then I went out to do some gardening in the front while Bunnykins had a lay-in. While Woo and Mark were away, we had agreed that we would have our "Bunnykins and Mummy, weekend of fun"...we would do all the things that weren't appreciated by the others, like doing jigsaws, watching Twilight and listening to Justin Bieber.

Now neither of us are big fans of the Bieber, but he has a few good tunes. However, he seems to cause such a negative reaction in the others, that it was just fun to have the opportunity to listen to whatever.

Anyway, I got started with some planting in the bed that Mark and I had cleared.
Bunnykins came out to join me.
She brought out some refreshments too and we got the job done in no time. Well it's still not finished as there is more clearing and then planting to do, but I ran out of space in the green bin, so the rest will have to wait.
We then went and did some gardening in the back. Bunnykins potted up some seedlings,
and also helped me save some lupin seeds.

We went for lunch at the cafe.
Another photo showed up on my memories. This one was from when Bunnykins started reception. Still adorable, still enjoying her chocolatey drink...😍
We then walked along the high street to get Bunnykins a key cut. It is a bit of a right of passage getting your own key, so it was nice to do it together.
She couldn't work it when we got home though 😄
Meanwhile we got an update from Mark and Woo...enjoying a good lunch.
Mark let us know that their match at 2pm was going to be live streamed. So I settled down to watch it, Bunnykins was less sure this was an essential part of "Bunnykins & Mummy's weekend of fun".

It was an enjoyable game, but just after the commentators had been talking about what a good player Mark was and how he was doing all the work for the team, there was a big collision between him and another player. The other team were quite physical, and in chasing down a disk, the other player had got tripped up, his head hit Mark's hip (with a big clunk apparently) and his shoulder hit Mark in the groin. It wasn't good to watch him on the floor for several minutes. So I was relived when I could see him stood on the sideline talking to the opposition subs.
Woo was doing really well, she was keeping up with her marks and making some cuts. She did an end-zone cut and might have scored, but her marker (again) was pretty physical and shoved into her. It should have been a foul, but she is still learning to be confident about these things and in ultimate - you call your own fouls.
I enjoyed hearing Ed come on to commentate. Ed is the tournament organiser and an old friend from University. We all played together in the Warwick Bears and Ed was an usher at mine and Mark's wedding.

Woo and Mark got name checked to point out they were a father and daughter pairing on the team with this being Woo's first tournament and Mark being a veteran who was at the first Glastonbury Tor-nament back in 2000 I think.

When I had finished watching, Bunnykins came out to do some jigsaw-ing together. We chose a 500 piece one with canal boats.
(Got an update to say that Woo was getting on with homework in her tent - Mark's is the green one)
It was good fun sitting out together. Frasier (her bear) did keep complaining a lot, when normally he is very good spirited, but today he didn't like the cold. Still Bunnykins was engrossed in the puzzling and we had lots of funny little conversations about what was going on in the picture.
Frasier was proud of the picture when it was all done.
I made us a vegetable chow mien for tea. Then Bunnykins chose Beauty and the Beast - which is such a Mummy and Bunnykins film. We both love it. Woo tends to prefer the live action one, so going back to the original version is a treat.
I woke up early on Sunday and I hadn't slept well either despite having the bed to myself. Mark sent a couple of updates as they were waking up. Both had slept reasonably it seemed.
It was looking to be a bright morning, if a little fresh. I went outside for breakfast.
Bunnykins decided she wanted to stay home, which was fine. I went across to yoga. Ben had come along too. It was the last Park Yoga of the year. I haven't made many of them which is a shame, but this was a lovely one to finish on.

Bunnykins and I had a lunch of soup - her choice as one of her favourite foods.

I had a call with Stella, which was wonderful to catch up. Then it was time for another jigsaw. This time it was an illustrated view of London (another 500 pieces).
Lots more guys were down to join us this time, and there was plenty of funny chat. I really loved it. I find doing a jigsaw very meditative and for some of the time we would just work quietly together side by side. But then we would have a joke about a piece. Bunnykins' favourite jest being that when I muttered something like "Where does the pink umbrella go?" or "What is that from?" while holding a piece - she would go "oh I know!" - take the piece from me, and then laugh and go "oh no I don't" and put the piece down back in the box or on the side.
We got it finished just before Mark and Woo arrived home.
I had put tea in the slow cooker earlier, so we quickly sorted out laying the table and sat down to hear about their weekend.

Mark was saying how well Woo had played. In the first game of Sunday, it was against a team of fast young men (most teams were co-ed but not all). She also scored an incredible first point and then after that their heads went down and Biscuits took 7 more points in a row.

Woo had cut to the end zone and the disk was coming to her. However, her marker got the D and knocked it out of the sky. She still managed to catch it from the deflection! Thus the point was scored and their fates sealed. Mark on the sideline was just roaring "that's my daughter!!!".

Woo was a match with them for speed too it seemed. The opposition had sized the biscuits up as a bunch of slow oldies and were trying to run them down. But not Woo. She even had a habit of skipping along next to them as she kept up...which wasn't always appreciated...but must have been very funny!

Apparently in another game, Mark and Woo scored half of the points for the whole team where they won 13-? (I don't recall).
Because they had lost a fair few games on the first day and were in a very difficult pool, they did end up in the bottom group for day 2. But they did go on to win their group and take a trophy (Cup, Plate, Spoon, Coaster). The team all agreed (while Mark was off at the car), that Woo should take the trophy as it was her first tournament. She was over the moon and rightly so. I am super proud of her and she had had a great experience, fitting in with the team of adults and always trying her best.
I had had a great weekend too and loved my Bunnykins' and Mummy's weekend of fun. Bunnykins is such good company and good fun.

So proud of both my girls. 💗💗
