46 weeks and another park party

Sunday we went out to a bathroom showroom place near Calne to have another look at a sink unit we like for our ensuit and also to get samples of the material it is finished in.

On the way home we stopped at a pub for tea. I had intended to pack Squidge’s cup but had left it on the side in the kitchen, but she did pretty well with a glass and a straw!

back home and ready for bed but still time to play with Bert and Ernie…

Monday was another party in Page Park. Unfortunately the weather was shocking. We had a wander across in the morning drizzle to check it out, people were sheltering in their tented stalls, getting things set out, but there was little sign of people braving the weather to visit them.

After lunch, Squidge went down for a nap. Fidget and I sat in the front window watching a band perform forlornly in the rain, to themselves – there was hardly a soul to be seen.

However after a while the rain cleared and the sun came out. We put our wellies on and went back across. They had a few fairground rides, which Fidget went on. The helicopter was her favourite…

She then had a go on the teacups, she was the only one on the ride.

She was alright with it at first, but it was a bit spinney. Squidge was not impressed that she didn’t get to go on.

Her final choice was the swings ride (again she was the only one on it)…

On Tuesday morning while Squidge had a nap, Fidget asked me to make a castle out of her domino cards. It was quite a challenge but I think we did pretty well. Notice the cantilevered roof. Fidget chose the items we used to make the counterbalance weights.

I took this picture of Fidget 'cos she's really pretty and 'cos she had a lovely pony tail and clip in. You might think I am being daft but now when I look at it, I think it looks more like I imagine Squidge will look rather than how Fidget looks - ok yes v. daft.

Just before Squidge woke up, we got a text from Sharon saying they were at the park and would we like to join them. We got Squidge dressed and headed across.

However the wind really got up, infact our coats blew away off the pram and as I was chasing them across the fence my shoe blew off! So we all headed back to the Challis Palace for a drink.

When Daddy got home, Fidget asked if she could take a picture of him – I was pretty impressed with the result…

On Wednesday afternoon Squidge had her first session at nursery. I took her in, in the afternoon and left her for just 2 hours to see how she got on. I went to a nearby cafe and enjoyed a pot of tea and a slice of lemon drizzle cake while reading a book and watching the rain at the window – nice! While she was there – she walked 5 steps – I was sad to have missed it, but these weren’t her first steps - which would have been more gutting.

Thursday morning was Squidge’s first proper session at nursery. She headed off in the morning with Daddy and Fidget and then I picked them both up after lunch.

When we got back, Squidge started pushing the pram, so I got some video as to me this is as good as walking unaided. The pram gives no support – if you put any weight on it, it tips back.

Friday afternoon we went out for a walk with Naomi and Iestyn, taking advantage of the final break in the weather, it was great to be out enjoying a bit of sunshine. We walked along the cycle path to have a drink and sandwiches at a farm shop.

It was a really nice walk, though we were a bit exhausted with all the vehicle swapping that went on between Fidget and Iestyn so the planned blackberry picking was postponed for another day!

h45 weeks: a new tooth and first steps

On Tuesday Squidge was 45 weeks old. No one was meeting for mummy’s afternoon so I decided to take the girls out to the local Weatherspoons for tea. They have an afternoon special (between 2 and 5pm) where you can get a plate of fish, chips and peas and a cup of tea for £2.99. So Fidget and Squidge shared the fish, chips and peas and I had the cup of tea.

Squidge yummed hers down, Fidget was doing well but had left most of her peas. She then decided she needed the loo so we all had to troop to the bathroom, when we returned they had cleared our plates away but I was determined that Fidget finish her peas so went to ask them to bring out more peas which they did, and surprisingly Squidge did finish her peas (with a little bit of ketchup to sweeten the pill!)

Even though I took a picture on my phone on the Tuesday I thought I would take a better 45 week picture on the Wednesday, ere we go…

Squidge spent most of the morning going round and round on the v-tech baby walker.

In the afternoon, Squidge and I went over to Fidget’s nursery to talk about Squidge starting nursery. Squidge was very happy having an explore about and chat with the helpers. After we had filled in all the forms, we picked up Fidget and went for tea at a local farm shop, then had a wander round looking at the pigs and cows.

On Thursday I noticed that Squidge’s next tooth was finally making an appearance. It seems quite a while since the first two came through. She has had plenty of teething pains inbetween and has been gamely munching on all food offered, but given her appetite she could really do with a few more gnashers!

before we headed out to the shoe shop. I was sure that Squidge was not far from walking and with our impending holiday thought that shoes would be a good idea, so that she had the opportunity to try out walking around outside.

It was busy in the shoe shop – back to school!!, but there were alot of people serving and Squidge was happy pulling baby trainers off the shelves, before we knew it we were served and Squidge had her first shoes.

Squidge got into a bit of a routine so I decided to catch it on video. She would wander round the table with the hat on then stop, stand (not holding the walker), take the hat off, then try to get the hat on again – but struggle and get annoyed.

She was having such fun with the doctors hat that we decided to try out some more…

Friday, M had the day off and came with us to the swimming lesson to provide moral support, but for the second week in a row Fidget did not go in the water and created a scene, so we’ll have to give it until the end of the term but might have to leave it until later before taking her back to lessons. In the afternoon Daddy and Fidget went out to pick some rhubarb, then made a crumble together.

On Saturday we got ready for the day, between Fidget and I we picked a rather groovy outfit for her. I wanted to take a picture, but Fidget was too busy dancing.

i noticed Squidge taking a few steps around her baby walker so tried to see if she would walk. She did take a step…

we tried again and M managed to get Squidge’s first steps on video…

later on she did quite a few more hanging onto her teether for dear life!

Most of our effort recently has been around trying to get our ensuite done. It is cleared out now and we have mapped out on the floor all the bits we will be getting.

The afternoon was rounded off with a visit to the park…
