The weekend before the Easter weekend we are in a celebratory mood, so I thought we would try and make some newspaper chains, the girls decorated them, Fidget helped cut the newspaper into strips and I made the chain loops. We made a chain that ran the length of the room, but being fairly frank it looked pretty… erm well… rubbish and I so I thought I wouldn’t mess up our back room any further by hanging it, so after it got tugged round a bit and broken it went in the recycling. Bad mum…well maybe, but we had fun making it at least!
Later on the same day, Squidge found the camera again, brought it over and said “cheeeeese” so I obliged with a photo of the two of us.
The week before Easter weekend was really hectic, with M travelling up and down the country with work and me dashing over to London on the Thursday and dashing back again to pick up the kids from nursery, come home, pack the car and then head down to Dorset.
We spent the Easter weekend down with Granny and Grandpa. The weather was so lovely we were out in the garden nearly the whole time. Back in winter when we had visited Granny and Grandpa’s, Fidget had observed a shed she called the “piggy house” and Grandpa had perhaps recklessly promised to clear it out for her by the summer so she could play in it. Fidget had of course sensed that the good weather meant summer so she was quite clear that when we visited the piggy house would be ready. Thankfully Granny and Grandpa had worked very hard at the last minute to clear out the shed of various bits of chairs and wot-not and clear out the spiders. Then Granny had got a small table and chairs.
The girls loved it….
Later on, someone found the supply of bubbles…Squidge had great fun chasing them around in the sunshine.
Later on Good Friday, Aunty M, Uncle A and C&J arrived. We got out some basins of water and the cousins had great fun playing together.
Then just before bed it was time for a swim in the pool, Fidget was showing just how brill she is at swimming now she is back at swimming lessons again…
Saturday I realised that my camera was running low on power as I hadn’t charged it so I didn’t take any pictures, saving what I did have for Easter Sunday. On the Saturday Aunty M, Uncle A and the twins went across to visit A’s family on the Isle of Wight for the day. We had a walk out to the park. Unfortunately Squidge slept for the whole way there, the whole time Fidget was playing and just woke up as we started back. Nevermind – maybe another time – as it is a super park. The rest of the afternoon was spent in the piggy house and then also watching Sleeping Beauty which Granny had got in specially. Fidget did enjoy the film, but as predicted got pretty scared at numerous parts and also very sad (big real tears running down her face) when Snow White was in the glass coffin and the dwarfs were all sad.
In the evening we had another super swim, then off to bed.
Easter Sunday was another lovely sunny day. M's cousin B, his wife T and their new baby little T were coming round. While we waited excitedly for their arrival there was more playing in the garden.
Granny had planned an egg hunt, so when little T arrived we got started (even though little T at 6 weeks old wasn’t really interested in hunting or consuming chocolate eggs).
At first Squidge didn’t really get it either and kept handing me the bag back. I directed her over to an egg which she looked at with interest, I then suggested she put it in her bag and at this she suddenly got the point and was off!
I think Squidge actually did the best out of the 4 participating kinder. Fidget has a wonderful altruistic streak and after a few minutes collecting decided (entirely off her own back) that she would make sure her sister and her cousins were getting enough eggs and so gave eggs she had collected to them.
Squidge had no scruples about taking her sister’s eggs, despite already having a large bagful. We were very proud of Fidget and I did do my own bit of redistributing later as the amount Squidge had was actually rather obscene!
With my last flashing bar of camera energy I thought I would take some pictures of little T, but this was all I managed before darkness descended!
But it was lovely to meet him and hopefully we’ll get to see them all very soon.
Easter Monday was an equally glorious day, with more time in the garden, then watching the Jungle Book – Fidget was not keen on Kaa the snake. But even worse was Balooo the Bear fighting Shea Kann the Tiger. We all survived.
Then for a swim before driving home in the evening. It had been a brilliant weekend and a great opportunity to enjoy some superb weather. Thanks Granny and Grandpa!
When we were home on the Tuesday we had a further treat when we picked up a parcel from the post office with two supper huge Easter eggs. They were white chocolate, one with Fidget’s name on and one with Squidge’s name on. They are really super and Fidget and Squidge can confirm they are very tasty – thanks Grandma and Grandad. Easter is super!
