1st May was a Sunday, we had decided to move Squidge into a proper bed. We got the top bunk from Fidget’s room and moved it in. Both girls were pretty happy with the results…
Fidget’s room without top bunk…
“Who likes sleeping in a proper bed?”…
In the afternoon Aunty M, Uncle A and cousins C & J came over for a BBQ. It was a bit windy and overcast but we still got to sit outside…
Squidge had been asleep, but didn’t let a late start deter her from tucking in…
Given the strength of the wind we thought a bit of kite flying might be in order. Fidget took charge of the kite and was very good.
We then had a walk across to the play area, where fun was had by all…
Then I had the less good idea of visiting the sensory garden, where everyone got a bit wet (and cold) in the fountain.
So it was back home to loan little J a pink vest which I’m sure he appreciated.
Later on, I got out the scissors and set up a quick hair salon to sort out the girl’s fringes.
Monday, Monday la la, la la la la…..
What a cheery angel, perhaps it was because Daddy was interrupting her reading of her guide to the Ufuzi in Florence. She must be planning a trip.
Fidget has been a really good girl recently, a few months a go she was going through a phase, where as soon as my back was turned I would overhear a scene something like the following:
Fidget: “Come here…”
Squidge: “Arrrrrrr!!!!!! Waaaaaa!!!!”
Me: “what has happened?”
Fidget: “I dont want a time out!”
Squidge: (continued wailing and clutching of injured body part)
But she recently has been more likely to be overheard offering help to her little sister and generally being an angel. She likes to read to Squidge which is particularly lovely…
6th May. During the week we had received a large order of plants for the garden, which joy of joys had come in several tall boxes. Fidget immediately saw the potential and could hardly wait until Friday when I had promised we could make something from the boxes.
I suggested that we could make a rocket and a dolls house and this was accepted by Fidget.
We started off by painting our control panels for the rocket, so that when they had dried later we could add stickers for the buttons and so on.
Meanwhile I assembled the main shape of the rocket from two tall boxes that conveniently slotted together. I cut out the window and door and then shaped the nose cone.
Then we got to work adding the heatproof coating, or paint as it is sometimes known.
I am glad we have our super rubber floor in the kitchen as by the end there was quite a few purple and gold little footprints circling the construction area.
We left the rocket to dry, and I added some foil detail and heat protection.
Squidge went down for a nap and Fidget and I had a go at the dolls house, which quickly turned into a house for Bear and Tigger.
Squidge was very interested to inspect it all when she came down from her nap…
Including a ladder and a bed.
The rocket was a one spaceman at a time deal, which caused a bit of tension, as did the first rigorous test which ended in a crash landing as little spacegirl and rocket fell flat over and was not impressed, but not to be deterred was back on with her space exploration…
Then it was time to complete the control panels…
Ready for blast off…
7th May. We have long had plans for a pond at the end of the garden to encourage frogs. However it has been a long time coming, developing the design to make it safe for children, and meanwhile we noticed we dont lack for frogs. So I had a thought that instead we might add some more deck. I know, thank goodness, because what we were really lacking was some decking…
Well I know it sounds like we might disappear under ridged wood planks but by adding a stepped down deck infront of the one by the big tree, we wouldn’t have to add a rail to the deck, as we usually sit on this deck on the floor, so it is nice to have the view un-obscured. It also makes a good area for the girls to run up and down from the lawn on and M has ideas to build on it further (I shan’t ruin the wood based surprise!) Anyway suffice to say, on a wet Saturday, M headed out into the garden to start…
The afternoon was drier. Fidget headed out to help Daddy, while Squidge helped me in the kitchen.
By the end of Sunday, the deck was built and jolly super it is too…
Having the camera, having the late afternoon sun and two little cuties I tried to get some pictures of the two of them…
I found the two little lovelies sitting on a bench infront of the roses, what a splendid opportunity for a photo, “cheeeeese"!”, oh well nevermind….
Some better efforts by the peonies…
