Squidge is a brilliant eater, she will have a go at pretty much anything offered to her, gamely chowing down with her 4 teeth! Because she is such a hungry girl, I have tended more towards finger foods or less sloppy food that she can pick up and get in at her own (quick) pace. So up to now she hasn’t fed herself much with a spoon because I haven’t actively encouraged it. I realised that I needed to give her more opportunities to try feeding herself. So for breakfast of either weatabix or porridge we give her the spoon to feed herself – though 70% of it she eats with her hands. On the Tuesday before her birthday I tried giving her a fruit pot to eat herself – she did really well…
though of course the hand did go in eventually!
I was still giving Squidge an evening breastfeed, having dropped the morning feed for a cup a week or so before. The feeds had been quite difficult with Squidge grooving around, pulling my hair, getting bad latches and so on. I had determined to get to 12 months with the feeding, so having completed the feed on the Tuesday night (5th) – enough was enough! I even managed to enjoy the final feed, having a bit of a giggle and play with Squidge when she popped off (no more worries about setting up bad habits!). On going downstairs, M was waiting with a fab glass of bubbly – hurrah!
