Another bad night with the girls, it started when Fidget fell out of bed and then woke Squidge up with crying.
We drove out to Ile-Tudy which had a fantastic beach. We arrived at low tide, it was such a great beach for exploring.
We set up the shade tent as a base, then had a good wander about…
There was also some sandcastle building…
Grandpa got out his trenching tool for some serious sandcastle building…
I thought the variety of shells, in shape, colour and size was amazing, so not having any stained glass windows to photograph I turned my attention to the shells…
at the waters edge it was not necessary to look far to find sealife, there were loads of hermit crabs…
and even whelks…
but the cockles were astounding… They were huge! The size of your fist…
and weird!…
We packed up and drove into the town, which was very picturesque harbour. There were a few eating places but the first few we went in were busy. We went to a less busy one with an incomprehensible and small menu. I asked “ques que ce por enfants?” and was told with a shrug “carrots” (in a French accent). After some consideration the waitress suggested we might be happier at the next door restaurant. We went back over and found that they had a free table.
It was a nice lunch, marred slightly by M’s choice of food. When we placed the order, the waiter said he couldn’t speak English very well. I initially went for a raw meat dish but he managed to convey that I might wish to change my order. When M chose andouille sausage, the waiter looked very worried and gesticulated wildly about his stomach – my interpretation was the sausage was made of intestines, to which the waiter agreed. M said he was quite aware what it was and wanted it just the same.
Well this smelly sausage arrived, M had one bite that quite quickly went back into a napkin. He looked positively green for the rest of the meal.
After lunch we had a walk around the town, which was really pretty…
We drove back to the cottage and had a swim.
After getting the girls to bed, M and I went out to the on-site restaurant for a meal which was lovely.
Lunchtime horrors aside this was probably my most favourite day.
