On Monday the plan was to go get new wetsuits for the girls. They had well and truly grown out of the ones we got them previously, but then I think it was about 4 years ago and at the time, neither of them were troubling my height.
It had been forecast to be a bit rainy, but the afternoon turned out very nice.
I sat out and read my book for a while. This week has been punctuated by rather too much sugar and as I write this on Sunday, I am going to try and forego cakes, biscuits, and chocolate, at least for the coming week. Deirdre is a lovely hostess and does like to spoil us. Here was a lovely afternoon tea...
After which the girls got out some of the garden games.
Then in the afternoon, they had a swim.
On Tuesday we set out early, with our boot packed ready for a paddle board adventure. The car park was pretty empty which gave us lots of room to get set up.
The new wetsuits...TeamChallis ready to go...
We had a lovely time and paddled out into Poole Harbour. We took a few snacks and drinks and had lots of stops around the bay. It was really lovely.
We got back in and got changed. Mark and the girls went to the cafe to order some food. I sat at a picnic table to wait for them. My perch was by the car park, which I wouldn't have been surprised to find it was over a hell-mouth. By now the small car park was very busy with cars circling for spaces. Kids being dragged away from the local paddling pool were screaming and complaining, some kids were complaining about being taken to the pool. A large group arrived, screaming at each other about sun umbrella's left behind and what to do with the dogs. By the time they arrived back, I was feeling pretty anxious with all the negative vibes of the place. But the lunch was very welcome.
On the way home, we picked up a dry bag and a waterproof case for the phone. We got back and the girls had a swim.
Wednesday was forecast to be a really calm day. We decided to head back to Poole Harbour but this time take a packed lunch, and crucially...my phone in the waterproof case. Hang on to your pants for a lot of photos! 😂....It was such a still day heading out. It was so calm and quiet.
I was sharing a board with Bunnykins.
It wasn't so easy to take pictures of mine and Bunnykins' craft.
We stopped in the Harbour.
The girls had a swim around.
I had a little paddle about.
Off we went again towards a nature reserve across the bay.
We stopped at a beach, but it was quite sea-weedy near to the shore. Bunnykins and I stayed on the boards while Mark and Woo went ashore.
We decided not to stay on this beach but head around the corner.
We found a spot on the next beach with a tree for a bit of shade.
Time for some lunch.
There were more people on this beach, but it really wasn't crowded.
The banks had sand lizards in apparently.
Mark had a little paddle around.
Then the girls had a paddle.
We knew it would take up to an hour to paddle back across the bay, and the parking ran out at 2pm, so by 12:30 we felt it was time to start back.
Bunnykins took our first shift. We both had a good sing together as she paddled.
As we got to the main channel and out into the main bay, the wind was up a little, the water was much more choppy and there were more boats crossing the way. I took over and paddled like crazy to keep us going forward and to get us out of the way of any boats.

I was glad when we made it to a distinctive X marking post that marked the edge of the shallower water near the beach we had started from.
It had been such a great day.
We got changed and packed up and headed back. Not having enough of the water, the girls went for a swim, or rather a mess about with Bunnykins' hair and a good dunk under the water.
Mark and I got showered and changed. He had booked a table at Cinnamon, a local Indian restaurant.
It wasn't particularly busy when we arrived, but we were assured it would be busy; it was their banquet night and they were fully booked from 8pm.
It was very tasty food, but we were finished about 7:30 and not really ready to go back to the house. We popped into Tesco and got a drink before wandering out to the common to watch the sun go down.
We then went for a walk. It was a beautiful evening.
We even saw a deer (though I would be impressed if anyone could spot it from here).
A news item from the previous day!...
We got ready and headed out for the day to Corfe Castle.
It was a lovely day but super windy!
We had a good explore around.
It was really windy!
We walked into the village and found a pub. We made a good move by getting there just after noon and ordering. It took a little while for food to come, but not as long as it took others who arrived later. The place was quickly full up and turning people away. The south in summer is bad enough but in a year where everyone is stay-cation-ing then it is particularly crazy. Anyway, the girls occupied themselves.
On Saturday Mark and Tim went out to join a local park run. I stuck with my local route. It was so lovely when I arrived back that I sat out to have breakfast.
It had been forecast to be another atrocious day weather wise. But the rain didn't materialise at first. We had a walk out to the high street. We wanted to get a battery fitted in a watch Woo had bought from the charity shops in Wimbourne. And it was also an opportunity for a bit more charity shopping.
Once we had been to all the local charity shops, we went to the Costa.
Bunnykins making the international sign for "Tree"...
It was a beautiful walk.
Up at the Fort we found a geo-cashe, not that we were looking.
Nice leaf
The walk back was delightful. We walked along a fire break rather than the main track. It was so tranquil. The light coming through the branches of the trees was magical. The girls saw a deer very close by.
Butterflies...
Mark thought Woo looked like she was out of the Breakfast Club...
We got back to the car and had a sandwhich. We had a bit of an explore around the streams.
Before heading back to the house for a bit more Maj Jong.
I did end up winning quite a bit.

Thursday was forecast to be a bit miserable and the forecast was not wrong. We went out to Wimbourne. We walked out to a water mill which had been converted to a place for craft and artists along with a very nice cafe.
We then wandered into Wimbourne and spent the day charity shopping. Bunnykins showing off one of her favourite nik-naks...A news item from the previous day!...
On Friday I got up and had a run first thing. It was only around the block - a 20 minute heart raiser. But it certainly got me sweaty.

We went to the Tescos for groceries. The rain was properly set in. After lunch we played Maj Jong for a few hours which was lovely.
Most evenings, we have been watching the Olympics. The skateboarding has been really interesting and quite thrilling. We all really enjoyed the climbing, and were rapt watching the women's finals.
We then got ready to go out to the New Forest for a bit of an explore. We went to Linford Shobley, which was a place Mark used to go a lot when he was little.
We walked out to visit a hill fort.Bunnykins making the international sign for "Tree"...
