October Half-term

25th October

Daddy day. Clearly the girls are having a great time spreading their toys across the whole of the downstairs floor area.

I had been making the girls superhero costumes for Halloween, no particular reason other than Faith asked to be a superhero so I thought I would make them a costume each (crown, cape, wrist bands, t-shirt and jumper) and a costume for Bear and big Rabbit (cape and mask).

We had previously popped into the new fabric shop in Downend and the girls had picked their favourite colours of satin fabric, and I got a pink lining colour that went with their choices (white for Fidget, green for Squidge). The t-shirts and jumpers were made with an iron on printer paper with BAM! and POW! logos.

We decided to have a day out to puzzle wood, which is such a magical place so perfect for Halloween. It was very very cold, so even though the girls wore their costumes, it was under big coats and the crowns were swapped for woolly hats.

Out of the wind and in the shelter of the trees, it was a bit less freezee-fresh. They had a Halloween trail on which added some purpose to our roaming around.

We had previously been having some trouble with the car battery, M had been to Halfords and got a new one. We thought everything was fixed, but unbeknown, the new battery was not charging, just running down. Just as we turned onto the M32 on our way home it became clear that the problem was still there and that we were about to run out of battery power, which in a modern car is not good. M narrated as the main functions shut down and we just made it onto the hard shoulder of the slip road off to the ring road.

M decided to run home to get the orange car, while I called the AA. Fortuitously, M having left the scene was very much in our favour, as a lone lady with two little ladies on the hard shoulder of a motorway turns out to attract a quick response. The AA was with us in 10 minutes, only just after I had managed to bundle the girls into coats and out onto the verge.

It was however fortunate that M brought the car back (just 15 mins later) as the red car was going nowhere, it had a serious alternator fault and had to be towed to a garage. Me and the girls were back in time for bed. The kind AA man dropped M back some time later.

During the half term I had a few Halloween projects including making paper mache lanterns. It was pretty hectic, as Fidget worked very slowly and carefully concentrating on only one spot, while Squidge just kept slapping on more and more glue solution without bothering with the tissue paper. But eventually we all got the hang of it, and were very pleased with the results.
