Downloaded some pictures from my phone for this post and realised there were quite a few I hadn’t downloaded.
8th July – me and the girls check out the smoothie shop down the highstreet…
23rd July, Fidget goes for her first proper haircut…
Tuesday 30th August
Mummy day with the girls. It was the last full Tuesday with Fidget before she started school so we went out to Cribbs to get Fidget’s school shoes after breakfast.
After getting the shoes it was too early for lunch, but Fidget does love going up to the John Lewis cafe and so do I so we went up to have a mid morning snack. Fidget chose a scone with her own pot of jam and pot of cream that she spread with her own knife and was very chuffed about it.
I got Squidge a smarties cookie which she was entirely unimpressed with as it wasn't a scone.
In the afternoon I had to go to the dentist and take the girls with me. I took the DVD screen and a Mr Men CD and they sat there as good as gold.
We walked back having a chat, enjoying the late afternoon sun. We got to the corner of our road and Fidget looked at me, smiled and said “I am going to run to our house!” I smiled and said “ok”. She ran along the path ahead of me, her curls and summer dress flapping about and I felt like I could rip in two. I have never really wanted to keep the girls as babies, hold back time, but in that moment I wanted hold onto her and keep her just as she was at that moment forever – full of innocence, full of energy, full of questions.
When I wrote this down it made me want to cry. I wrote “Fidget is really excited about school and I am sure she is going to do well, but I feel on the verge of such a big change and it is really scary. I am entirely positive in her presence, but I worry about the influences she will come across.”
As I finish editing this post, she is already at school and I do feel much more relaxed about the school thing as Fidget seems very happy there.
The school shoes…
and also modelling some of the school clothes Granny got for her…
Saturday 3rd September
The girls raided the dressing up bag in the morning and had a dance around the kitchen. Note Fidget spending quite a bit of time checking out her lovely reflection in the oven door!
Tuesday 6th September
Last mummy day before Fidget started school, we had a visit from Fidget’s teacher in the morning, which was a great chance for Fidget to ask questions and have a chat.
We then made some cakes and the girls helped wash up before heading out to Mush’s where most of the gang was assembled.
Friday 7th September
This was Fidget’s first day at school, she was in in the afternoon. Daddy took her in, and I did feel quite torn about the fact I would be at work and not with her, but she of course was fine and not particularly bothered.
Before I left for work M had a crash course in doing hair bunches and did a very good job.
Fidget picked out her uniform and they got ready, she looked very smart…
They got to the school and M wanted to take a picture of Fidget infront of the school sign, but first Fidget wanted a picture of her hair in bunches, my big little girl!…
She had a great day, and when she came home asked if she could go again tomorrow, and was disappointed when told that tomorrow was Saturday.
Thursday 20th September
While we were still in the settling in to school period, M had not started on his 2 day a week thing yet so I took a day’s leave to take Fidget in and look after Squidge.
I had a few days previous noticed quite suddenly that Squidge was actually really good at puzzles, especially the wooden shape puzzles – just putting the pieces in place with barely any fiddling. So I had been going around the house trying to find as many of Fidget’s puzzles as possible. She really liked the one where you can change the clothes of the Mummy, Daddy and Baby bears…
Just a quick update on Squidge’s progress – she is now saying lots and lots, including quite a few phrases she has. The other day I lay down on the floor and she came over and said “Wats-da-madder-baby?”, then she wanted me to get up and grabbed my arm and said “come-on-mummy”. She also is getting her colours pretty well. She definitely knows blue, green, red, pink and yellow. She is also getting orange “my-car…mmmm-orange”. Purple she usually calls blue, which is her favourite colour. When I get her a drink she likes to choose which colour cup “blue-one-mummy”
Later that day, when Fidget was home from school, I was in the kitchen clearing up from tea when Fidget came in pushing Squidge in the dolly pram. They had taken the seat off and Fidget had managed to lift Squidge in. It was very funny, however it was really difficult to get Squidge out, but Fidget was really good and understood the importance of helping to hold down the pram while I lifted Squidge out.
Saturday 24th September
Granny and Grandpa were down, Daddy and Grandpa were tiling the ensuite. Granny and the girls and I went out to Cribbs to check out birthday presents for Squidge and had our usual pancake lunch in John Lewis.
The girls were really good waiting for their food, each doing their little colouring books I keep tucked in my bag.
Sunday 25th September
We went across to the park with the bikes. Fidget has previously been very scared riding her bike (even with stabilisers) after she fell off going over a dipped curb.
But she did really well, we went up to the sensory garden and she started cycling round on her own, really quite fast and very confidently which was great to see.
Squide enjoys the trike but has no great interest in trying to peddle at the mo..
We went down the conker path which gave Fidget a great chance to practice using her brakes every time she saw a conker…
