So trying to catch up on a busy week and weekend...

Tuesday was mummy day and true to recent form the rain was bucketing down. So after a quick check of what we had in the cupboards, Fidget and I decided to make some cakes. Fidget popped on her apron (bought with money from Great Granny Joyce) and got out her new baking set (from the Boothes) thanks guys! We got out all the ingredients, washed our hands and got going with the measuring. Fidget was brilliant, she weighed the ingredients into the scales (stopping when mummy said), carefully put them into the bowl, and her mixing skills were second to none...

I cracked in the eggs while she kept on mixing, then when the mix was ready - Fidget spooned it into paper cases and I popped them in the oven.
Fidget then got on with the washing up...

We read some books while we waited for the cakes to be ready, we then took them out and Fidget patiently waited for them to cool.
It was then important that we tested the cakes...

We then went round to mummy's afternoon where Fidget was pleased to share her cakes with her friends.
Friday is the second mummy day of the week, the weather was much better so in the afternoon we were able to play on the deck and try out the new swing in its proper position, and get some photos (when Daddy got home). Faith thinks it's super - thanks Grandma and Grandad!
She also thinks it is pretty super for yellow bear!

We had planned a fairly quiet weekend, but when driving into work on Thursday we'd seen some hot air balloons (not too unusual occurrence as on a still morning they are often over Bath), but it got me wondering when the Bristol balloon fiesta was, as Fidget thinks balloons are super. It turns out it was this weekend so we decided to go on Saturday (I was thinking of taking Fidget on my own on Friday but I'm glad I decided against it as it would have been madness!).
We thought the parking would be busy so decided to take the bus. We took the bus from our road into town and then caught the balloon fiesta bus. Fidget was already enjoying the adventure!
It was a hot day on Saturday and the fiesta was heaving, we walked round past all the rides and stalls and from far off I spotted a small unoccupied patch on the shady bit of the hill overlooking the arena (the hillside was packed!) I marched up the hill and we got our picnic blanket down. On all the photos it doesn't look too steep, but we kept sliding down the hill and each time Fidget stood up she had to be prevented from starting to rolly poly down the hill which she thought was hilarious.

We settled down to watch the events in the arena.
At 5 in the afternoon there was a display by the red arrows which was spectacular even though alot of it was happening behind us and our view was blocked by a not insignificant amount of trees. Also at this point I had pressed some button or other on the camera that had turned off the auto focus so the best shot I have is the one below...
M and Fidget had been out foraging for food, when the display started, but soon returned to the camp...
At first Fidget was quite fascinated but after a loud bit, she got a bit wobbly and just wanted cuddles and to have her ears covered.
BTW, I know it looks like she is having a capuchino but it is milk honest!
At shortly before 6 in the evening, preparations started for the main event - the mass balloon launch, we had a great view up on the hill. It took a long time to get going, but was still quite exciting, particularly when the Royal Navy balloon caught fire (just a little bit!), it still managed to fly with a hole in the silk which was impressive.
Unfortunately people in front of us started to stand up, so we were forced to stand at the back by the treeline to get a view, but Fidget had a good seat so she wasn't too worried...
It was really spectacular, amazing how they got the balloons up in the cramped space.

Then it was time for them to start launching...

The launches were fairly staggered, but the effect was fantastic.

Some of the balloons were huge, and the churchill dog was really impressive...

Churchill was then joined by a monster.com balloon with quite a bit of wrestling between them.

Fidget getting comfy...

When most of the balloons had set off we decided to do so ourselves, so packed up and made our way through the park back to the buses.

For quite a bit of the way the paths were packed, and we were walking shoulder to shoulder and were glad we hadn't bothered to bring the pram. All the way along we were following the balloons and watching them float over Bristol, it was a fantastic sight.

The bus queue was huge, but fortunately about 7 busses turned up all at once so it didn't take too long to get seated, which was good as I was starting to feel pretty pooped out. In town we hopped off to change buses - unfortunately we didn't find the right stop for our optimum bus (stops yards from our house), but as it was getting pretty late, caught one that would drop us only a short walk away. By this time it was 9pm ish, Fidget was still pretty excited on the bus, but as soon as we got off and Daddy picked her up, she popped her head on his shoulder and fell fast asleep!!
So not content with one adventure in the weekend, this morning we drove into London to visit friends and attend their son F's Christening. We got to Richmond, and as we were early stopped at a pavement cafe for a drink and cake, it was very continental, and Fidget enjoyed sharing a muffin with Daddy.
The service was really nice, and the church was very relaxed, by the end of the service all the kids were tearing about at the back of the church. Fidget had taken off her shoes (after giving Daddy a choice - "it's either the shoes or the dress Daddy") and was running up and down chasing the older kids and having a super time.
We then went back to the house, were Fidget was very happy playing with her new chums...

she looked very pretty in the dress she had got from K, M, I & Y next door - thanks guys - it's lovely!

The man of the day, little F...
The girls scrubbing the floor...(!)
We had a nice time chatting and playing and then it was time to say our goodbuys and drive back, Fidget was very good, having a little nap, then playing with bear and making some impromtu instruments with Mummy to accompany the music . No picture - but imagine M grimacing and driving listening to wooden blocks being shaken manically in a sweet tin!!
