On Monday, Mark and I went out for lunch at the café. We stepped out the door, and I asked Mark my usual question..."have you got a key?", he said yes, then closed the door. I looked at the keys in his hands and said that they weren't the right keys.... They were keys for the back doors, not the front.
We knocked next door at Nancy and Peter's, and asked if we could try to get over the fence. There was no suitable point, but we have the badger hole. This is a hole we left in the fence from ages ago when we first put the gravel boards in. The badger caused chaos trying to dig through, so we thought it best to leave a gap.
Anyway, Nancy brought a dust sheet that we put through the hole and I set to go through it (particularly given the state of Mark's knee). Turns out my yoga practice is fairly handy. I did a good plank through the hole and then managed to bring a leg forward and through the hole. I was quite impressed with myself, though it wasn't the most elegant of sights through from the neighbour's side of the fence.
On Tuesday morning I went for a run. I am trying a new routine with a run on Tuesday and Friday morning, and then walks on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Mark and I are also trying to get back into walking a bit more at lunch. So after we ate, we walked up to the high-street. We went to Nom, which is a new wholefood/plastic free shop on the high street where you can bring your own containers for all sorts of things including pasta, cereals, washing up liquid, etc. We also picked up some bananas and some bread from other shops. It was only the bread with any plastic wrapping, so we were chuffed with that.On Wednesday I dropped the girls at the bus stop and went for a walk. It was a beautiful frosty and misty morning. Our shower has been dripping a long time, but recently the drip has become ridiculous. I looked into it and realised that because it was a Matki shower it could be serviced, even though it is 15yrs old. So a nice chap came out and replaced the valve. I wish I had done it much earlier.
Ben came over in the evening. We had another go at Sweet Marie, I really loved it.
On Friday I had a run.
Then came back and got showered and dressed. It was too cold for any gardening, all the soil was frozen. I had an online appointment at 10am, so I dressed and sat to read until then. I finished my book and really loved sitting in my room.
On Saturday, Ben and I had a walk planned. It was a beautiful frosty morning.
My favourite bit was walking along by the river, there was such a great hoar frost. I love a hoar frost. Where I grew up near the Humber, we would sometimes get great hoar frosts and I thought they were just magical.
And then out to Prospect Stile. We could see the mists still at lower level.
We walked up to Kelston Round Hill for more beautiful views in one of my favourite places. But it was a tad chilly!...
We walked down to Kelston, there were shafts of light breaking through the clouds, but I couldn't quite catch them as they looked.
We came to the Old Crown Inn at Kelston, which was our planned lunch stop.
It was wonderfully cosy, we had considered having a sharing option that would have been fairly light, and then we saw 2 guys nearby served pork belly (with crackling), mash, veg, and gravy.... it looked delicious, and we immediately changed our orders!
When I got back, Mark and I had a go at sticking down the glass on the table (required a lot of measuring and fiddling about first). Then we hung one of the pictures. This picture has been the touchstone for my decorating scheme. It is one that came from Mark's Grandfather's house and I have always really liked it, including it's frame.
Bunnykins was in the kitchen making cookies. Woo came down in the new top that she had got from the charity shops on Saturday with Mark. She was very pleased with it, and I thought it looked very stylish...though a little chilly for this weather.
I nipped out and potted up the little Christmas tree in the afternoon (the temperatures finally haven gotten to double figures). The rest of the afternoon was spent reading in our lovely front room.
