Fidget’s nativity play at school was in the church. Fidget was a cat, she didn’t have any lines to say, but I know she had learnt some of the songs as she was singing them at home. When it came to it though she just sat looking around very interested at what was going on and sucked her fingers or picked her nose – no singing!
We aren’t able to post any of the pictures that show other children, but there are some where I have cropped others out so I can post them…
11th December
Fidget has really got into the nativity story, she dresses up as Mary and dresses Squidge up as Joseph then they get the hobby horse and ride off to Bethlehem…
then they ask us if there is any room in the stable (forget about the inn – get straight to business) and put baby Jesus in the duplo box crib.
16th December
Mummies Christmas meal out, it was really nice chatting with everyone, and I had a lovely night, despite the freezing draft from the front door or the even worse service!
thanks for the photo Mush!
17th December
Grandma and Granddad came down for a Christmas weekend, as we wouldn’t see them on Christmas day. We went out to Bristol to meet Uncle A and Aunty B. The girls wrapped up warm and ready to go…
We had a lovely lunch at Uncle A’s house, then wrapped up warm again…
We all walked down to the river and took the ferry across to the other side.
We went to the M-shed, where there was a choir performing carols which was lovely. We had a look round
the girls loved the bus
some elves were doing a luck dip present box and Fidget got a cool buzz-stick that makes weird noises and Squidge got a bear-fairy. We had a hot choc and cakes before wandering along abit more.
18th December
Fidget wrote out Daddy on the etch-a-sketch, Daddy was rightly very proud.
On the Sunday, Mark cooked a ham as a Christmas lunch for everyone…
After the pud it was time for some presents…
Grandma and Granddad had brought Fidget a super pink ukulele and an “E-Z-Fort” for Squidge that you can fit together to build all sorts of play houses and dens – really cool – thanks! I was also really pleased with the earings I got – thanks!
Then it was time for a game – reindeer hoopla!
her first performance was pretty shortlived…
22nd December
Squidge managed to smuggle an old swimsuit and her armbands downstairs
23rd December
Granny and Grandpa had arrived to stay with us over Christmas and while M and Grandpa got to work on a few jobs around the house, Granny, the girls and I went across to see Aunty M, the twins and Great Aunty M. All the ladies (and little J) went out for lunch together…
24th December
the girls were very excited that it was Christmas eve. In the afternoon they even tidied up their rooms – very enthusiastically – so that Father Christmas wouldn’t trip over.
We hung the stockings, set out the mince pie, carrot and juice. Then went out to mass. It was very busy in the church so we ended up sitting in the vestibule. Fidget was particularly curious when the congregation sang “and Faith holds wide the door…”, “what? why are they saying that? Why are they saying my name?”. By the time we got back it was straight to bed and fast asleep so Santa would come quickly.
25th December
The girls woke up and brought their stockings into our room to open.
Squidge was also very happy with Santa’s interpretation of Baby Timmy – phew!
We came downstairs and had some breakfast joined by Granny and Grandpa. Then the girls opened their presents from us. Squidge was very pleased with the rabbit I made and christened him Dilly.
M modelling his new apron decorated by the girls, and Squidge in the cloak I made for her.
We went across to Aunty Ms as soon as we were dressed, Granny and Grandpa had already gone across to help with preparations.
There was a frenzy of present opening, we all received so many super presents – I will do my best to get thank yous out soon.
M’s Aunty N had made a puppet theatre for the twins, Fidget loved it and did an impromptu performance as soon as it was in place.
No I’m not writing next year’s wish list, but making a note of who sent what…
The girls were very happy to be playing with the twins new toys…
Squidge giving baby Timmy his lunch…
We had a lovely Christmas lunch and Fidget kindly helped with the washing up…
We reassembled for some trifle (made by Fidget) and Christmas pudding. Great Uncle S kindly took a TeamChallis team photo.
Uncle S still had the camera (set to no flash) as the Christmas pudding was brought out and took this next photo. To explain what was happening – disappointed with the first attempt to light the pudding (nothing happened), more rum had been brought out in a cup. Uncle A poured this on, while Aunty M managed to light the rum while still in the cup, which then went up A’s arm, he dropped the cup on the table (still flaming), Aunty M with the clear head that I’m sure would bless any of us in this situation, started trying to put out the flames by hitting them with what she had to hand…the open box of matches! Matches flew all over the flaming pud and tablecloth! I can’t say I reacted any better, instead of thinking to do anything or rescue the children for example, I stood open mouthed gasping, while M just sat back and in little brother style just made quips about his sister trying to put out a fire with matches, and Great Uncle S decided the best thing to do was photograph the scene…
Fidget, shaking her head at the behaviour of the grown ups, returned to the kitchen to complete the washing up…
Thanks for a lovely Christmas day guys, it was flaming good!
26th December
I was up with the girls, Fidget was finally keen to try on her cape, and I tried to get a picture of both of them in their capes but Squidge was not playing ball.
As is traditional on Boxing day, the men looked after the children for the day while the women headed out into the sales to hunt for bargins. M, Uncle A and Grandpa set up the crèche at the ChallisPalace.
Uncle S drove me, Aunty M, Great Aunty M and Granny out to Cribbs. We raided Monsoon and Accessorise, via Gap and M&S. Great Uncle S very kindly ferried our bags of bargains to the car. After a recharge at a cafe we headed back with our spoils. M got lots of lovely food laid out and everyone generally chilled out and chatted.
27th December
Great Aunty M and Uncle S and Granny and Grandpa were heading off. Great Aunty M, Uncle S, Aunty M and the twins all came across to us for a ride out on new scooters and trikes before all the goodbyes.
Granny and Grandpa had got the girls new scooters for Christmas and they were very keen to try them out (the girls that is, rather than Granny and Grandpa).
back for a bite of lunch…
After the goodbyes, the girls asked for us to set up the dancing toy from Cousin A. It has a camera that shows you dancing on the TV and plays music with cartoon animals doing dance moves for you to follow. The girls were able to show the cartoon animals a move or two. M and I of course taught them everything they know...
