Saturday 8th, we got dolled up in our finest and headed down the M5 to attend the Christening of (M’s cousin and his wife) Bobby and Tina’s little boy T. M was asked to be godfather and the girls were very excited about seeing the family.
We stopped along the way to have some lunch and the girls were their usual angelic selves in the cafe.
We arrived at the church where Bobby and Tina had been married. Fidget was not expecting to see her cousin Cara (who she thinks is brill) we didn’t think she was coming and had told Fidget this so she wouldn’t be disappointed. To our surprise and delight Cara was there and rushed up to greet Fidget. Fidget however does not like surprises so was not delighted or delightful, infact she was a little ratbag and told Cara that “she was not her best friend” and went into a mump. Cara was upset about this, so through most of the ceremony, Cara could be heard quietly crying on one side of the church with me telling Fidget off under my breath on the other side.
It was fortunately a relaxed ceremony so the drama between Fidget and Cara wasn’t too much of a problem.
After the ceremony, everyone milled about in the church for a while giving the children a chance to check out the heating system…
have a good explore and run about…
and for Fidget to make up with Cara and have a good race around…
We then went in convoy to a church hall. With it being close to Squidge’s birthday she had a few presents to open. It did cause some confusion when she started walking around with presents as to whether they were her own or ones she had lifted from the table of presents for T!
Granny and Grandpa had followed on the domestic theme with a kettle, microwave and toaster along with some other great presents. Thanks also to Cara (and family) and Aine for the lovely presents!
the girls find Squidge’s microwave…
15th October
On the following Saturday, M took the girls out for a walk to the shops via the park so I could get myself started on the heaps of sewing projects I want to get done before Christmas. The girls arrived back while I was doing some cutting out, and told that they couldn’t come in the kitchen, pulled up their little chairs for ringside seats – very cute!
Then on Sunday M took the girls out again, he asked them where they would like to go and the resounding cry was “to the menders!!!”. To explain, when M takes the car to be fixed it is usually at a place attached to a Ford dealership so the girls spend their time while waiting, crawling around the cars on display. This is “the menders”. M decided to ring the changes with a visit to a Kia dealership and I believe fun was had by all.
i got myself set up in the kitchen again and finished sewing the cover for an old cot mattress to go at the bottom of the slide. I covered it in a plastic coated fabric (like you get for tablecloths), which was a 8*&^£” to sew as it was very sticky and wouldn’t feed through the machine, but I finished it and was very chuffed with it. I also got one Christmas present completed but I can’t say any more about that of course!
18th October
Tuesday 18th was mummy day. Walked to the school to drop Fidget off, then walked all the way back up to Staple Hill highstreet. This is about a 45 min walk, all uphill. There was a cold wind and Squidge while wrapped up and warm, complained all the way, splendid.
Went into the post office and to drop off a fabric sample at the sewing shop, then popped into the pdsa charity shop on the high street, where they had just put in place (the day previously) a fab vintage corner (with tea dance music and all). I got quite a bit of cool stuff including a very sweet little pinny to go in the dressing up box.
Got back to the house then jumped into the car immediately to go to Mushs. Had a very relaxed mummy morning at Mush’s with Naomi and the little babas
Got back home and Squidge found the pinny and got it out of the bag, looked at it, then smiled at me and said “Princess!”. This is a new word for her but she delivered it beautifully. Here she is as a patchwork princess…
We picked up Fidget from school who also wanted a try of the patchwork princess dress…
We then went to try out the new slide cushion that I had made at the weekend. It worked really well as it has cords with velcro to go round the bottom of the slide. It was a lovely autumn afternoon and I took loads of cool pictures of the girls…
