We had a nice day on Saturday, busying about and getting stuff done, then on Sunday (Fidget's 9 month birthday), we went across to Newport to see Aunty M, Uncle A, and Granny and Grandpa. Aunty M is wanting to sell her house, so we lent a hand with some jobs and Fidget had a great stomp around with Granny trying out her new wellies in the garden.
Granny seems to have a knack of eeking out the latest 1st from Fidget... this time it was standing up unaided!.... They both had a lot of fun practicing...
Fidget has a new sleeping bag that means she can be put in her car seat asleep and toasty, but still fasten the car seat through it, so we stayed for tea and set off home about 9pm. It has been a busy week and unfortunately M and I had put off the task of filling up the car with diesel. Just passing junction 21 on the M4 the car ground to a halt with just enough puff to get to the hard shoulder.
We called the AA and bundled out onto the grass verge, we piled a blanket and a coat on Fidget and then concerned that she was still not warm enough, M used his coat to make her a nice cosy tent. She was plenty warm, but M was freezing. We ended up having to wait for an hour and a half, and then were "rescued" by a local oik (subcontracted by the AA I guess), who complained bitterly about us not having cash to pay for the diesel (a cheque being no good) and shouldn't we feel sorry for him. Funnily enough - I did not.
We were home by midnight, and rather chastened by the experience.
